I’m probably ditching Medium in 2025

About a year ago, I decided I was going to try a be everywhere strategy. I would publish my articles, my videos, my podcast on every platform imaginable. Well, not imaginable, but the big ones, right? I abandoned that pretty quickly.

It didn't appear that the juice was worth the squeeze, especially for publishing my podcast over on Substack. I felt like I was giving people too many options to pay me and not enough people wanted to pay for my premium content. Something I'm really considering in 2025 is shutting down Streamline Solopreneur Accelerated altogether. It's not worth the cost of having the extra episodes edited, and I have found more traction in this show than in that show. So if you happen to be a member who also listens to this, stay tuned. You know, I want to obviously do right by you. But yeah, it's something I'm really considering.

But this morning, I'm thinking about where I'm publishing outside of my blog, and I just I don't think medium is worth it. I've given it a year, and I probably will stop publishing to medium in 2025. Substack is still okay. It's probably still worth publishing there. But you know, a lot of the stories I publish to medium get very little, little to no views. And it's, it seems like it's probably my headline strategy. All the headlines I read for the recommended stories on medium are stupid. They're clickbaity, and I hate them. And I'm not going to change the headline on medium to appease medium's algorithm. So I think in 2025, I'll still continue to put some effort into Substack. I think there's probably value in that. But I'll basically be publishing to my personal blog.

I'll be publishing a lot more on casabona.org with the rebrand. And I'm also going to rebrand podcast workflows. This is, I guess, breaking news here to streamlines podcaster to fall in line with my new brand and all of that fun stuff. That's really going to be an announcement at the end of podcast advent. But I want the cohesion of a personal brand across multiple properties. And I have streamlined solopreneur, I have streamlined podcaster. And so I do have the streamlined solopreneur publication with blog.streamlined.fm pointing to medium.

But unless something dramatically changes in the next two months, I don't think I'm going to keep publishing to medium. Because I'm not building an audience, clearly. Whereas I'm at least seeing small but positive signals on Substack. So that's what I'm thinking for my publishing. It's a dance between owning your platform, owning your content, and putting it in places where it's going to be discovered. And what I'll probably end up doing more of, because I'm getting rid of medium, is publishing streamlined solopreneur over at Substack as well. Especially if I get rid of the members only bit. So it may be a case where I change my process so that stream, you know, I wish that medium would, or that Substack would automatically import. Maybe they do. Maybe I need to look into it. But I can see Substack, because of its multimedia and easy membership and easy recommendation engine, I can see that being a bigger part of my strategy in 2025 versus medium, which is just, it hasn't really been worth it for me.

So as always, I'd love to hear your thoughts if you respond to the email where I sent this. And I guess it's a weekend of lots of thoughts for me, since I'm publishing two episodes within 14 hours of each other. But thanks so much for listening. I, of course, appreciate your support. And until next time, I'll see you out there.
